Got Mikey Pence breathin down my fuckin neck about spending Carlyle Marney less time reading books and time signing documents about sticking those Mexican kids in refrigerators or whatever I told him to just bring me the fuckin papers and Il sign wherever I need to cause I need to know what s gonna happen to that weirdo twerp Hikaru Sure he acts up every once in a while but if they stopped shoving nasty vaccines in his blood he could really rebound If those parents of his got in touch with me I could really set their reality straight One of my favourite things in this volume was the representation of those autistic people who are higher functioning and therefore present in slightly different ways to those with severe difficulties I m autistic as is my oldest child and we are on what used to be diagnosed as the Aspergers end of the spectrum so it wonderful to see that portrayed in this volume alongside obvious communicationcomprehension difficultiesI also really appreciated how honest this volume was about parents admitting that prior to diagnosissupport they sometimes resorted to smacking their child wither out of frustration or self defence and that having support makes such a difference to how they parented afterwards I think it was really brave of the writer to put inI really Shameful like Miyu s mother she always makes meaugh and she s uite a relatable character too I think I also really iked how Sachiko got ill in this volume and had to struggle on regardless so relatable Also the reader gets to see what s going on in the Father s ive outside of the home environmentThe only reason this wasn t uite a 5 star read was that I found it slightly too idealistic in places the parents start to struggle sure but it s over with really uickly because support seems to come from wherever they ask for it There s a ot of teachingsupport staff that know exactly what to do or how to fix the problem Also members of the community step in to help Hikaru if he goes into a shop etc that he is. When staffing changes at Masato's company get him transferred to a dead end job in the middle of nowhere suffering and despair seem imminent for the Azuma family However Masato approaches the situation with aplomb and comes up with new ways.
N t allowed to Don t get me wrong it s ovely but I don t think it s entirely true to Angel Without Mercy (Agnes Carmichael, life Maybe I m aittle bit clouded by some of my own family s experiences on this point but I can only go with my personal feelingsreactions I guess I would have Gold Rush liked some of the strugglesemotional turmoil to have gone on foronger than a few pages bearing in mind how Girl Reporter long and detailed these volumes areStill my favourite manga though and Il be reading the rest of the series This series I wish every parent could read it It parallels so much of my experience as a parent of a child with Autism I feel recharged empowered and hopeful when I read these books It not only explains how the parents and caregivers feel it actually gives thoughtful and practical advice on how to navigate situations with child with ASD This was so good and sweet I Hunted love these manga Best things I ve read about autismPlus it makes all of these points about figuring out how to make sure autistic adults have good jobs so they can be independent andive the best possible Gingerbread Heart lifeFantastic In another volume of the alreadyengthy series about autistic Hikaru Keiko Tobe continues the story of Hikaru s family and school friends this time fleshing out incidences of institutional abuse and his father s workplace struggles after exile to a branch office As always the series offers wonderful insight into the peculiarities of Japanese workplace school and family culture and the struggles those with disabilities face Despite some topics being reemphasized the series succeeds at not seeming repetitive as the author covers new ground in the ife of the now fifth grader Hikaru in the series of manga volumes about bringing up a child with autism Apart from the main story ine about Hikaru and his mother Sachiko there is a sub plot bolstered by appendices about Hikaru s father Masato setting up a factory which will employ people with disabilities and a couple of disturbing threads about children being abused in residen. To pave the way for Hikaru and those ike him to become cheerful working adultswith surprising results Hikaru himself seems to be getting closer bit by bit to achieving this goal as the Azumas decide to foster their son's independence in
